Gold Carat Purity Explained (24K to 9K)
Carat measures how much pure gold is in the item, out of 24 parts: 24K is pure (99.9%), 22K is 91.6%, 18K is 75%, 14K is 58.5%, 10K is 41.7% and 9K is 37.5%. Jewellery is usually 9K–22K; the rest is alloy (silver, copper) for strength and colour.
